I know what you're thinking, just 1 day in New Jersey? But trust me, it is more than enough. New Jersey is a wonderful blend of culture and characters. It may be small but there is shortage of things to do. There are plenty of outdoor activities such as beaches, parks, and landmarks to see in the Garden State. The natural parks are actually some of the most popular tourist attractions and they provide the best views or the best photo opportunities (which is always a must). If you're planning a trip to New Jersey or considering going, keep reading to see some of the things I did in one day to make the most of my quick time in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Liberty State Park - With stunning city skyline views, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island in the backdrop, it’s clear that Liberty State Park is one place you should put high on your list. This 36-acre park is the perfect location for a weekend adventure and gives you an opportunity to learn so much about the park's unique history. There is also amazing views of NYC!
Catch Ferry to Ellis Island - Docking at Liberty State Park, the ferries offer transportation across the Hudson to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island—one ferry ticket provides both islands access. This is neat because you get amazing close up views and pictures of the Statue of Liberty and you get to explore Ellis Island!
Empty Sky Memorial - Before starting your adventure, take a moment to visit the twin walls that give a clear-cut view toward Ground Zero at the Empty Sky Memorial. Fun fact: The length of each wall at the memorial is equal to one side of the former World Trade Center Towers. 749 New Jersey victims’ are named on the stainless steel walls.
Jersey City has a charm all of its own. What I enjoyed the most, was how much you can do, free of charge. Choosing to make Jersey City your base for exploring the area is more than just a price hack: it’s a place to discover lesser-visited sights and un-touristed hotspots. If you are looking for a day getaway and change of scenery, this is the place to go and be. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or exact suggestions you may be wanting more information on. I am always excited to hear back from you all. Now, go and book a trip to explore New Jersey!
