Ultimate Guide to 2 Days in Virginia/West Virginia

Richmond, Virginia and Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Richmond's vibrant capital city and Harpers Ferry's views and outdoor adventures! Both places are perfect for a very affordable yet exciting weekend. But first, let me just give a really quick insight to just how we ended up here. Let me tell you, it was 100% unplanned. Once we heard our original flight back from Baltimore to Houston was cancelled again for the umpteenth time, we decided to continue our state hopping vacation and drive out to Richmond, Virginia for a day and Harpers Ferry, West Virignia the following day. They did not disappoint, and we chose the most perfect spots to explore and hangout. Both are the perfect must-see destinations for quick yet effective one day trips.

Richmond, Virginia - Day 1

If you’ve followed my travels this year, you’ve heard me talk about how much I love seeing smaller cities and towns with a unique sense of place and charm. Richmond, Virginia was exactly and perfectly that.

  • We left our Baltimore Hotel at around 12:30 and arrived in Richmond, Virginia at 2:30

  • First place we stopped at was Capitol Square - A must see, their capitol is BEAUTIFUL to walk around and packed with history. And there is so much to do in the area.

  • Pump House - A gothic style famous haunted house in Virginia that was built in 1881.

  • Bryd Park - This aesthetic park is so relaxing to walk around. There is a pond and ducks will come out and greet you. The neighborhood surrounding this park was also really neat to drive around.

  • Belle Isle - A hidden GEM! This is a must! It is definitely for all my adventure and sight seeing loving travelers. Since this area is at an incline, it provides a breathtaking view of the city.

Harpers Ferry, West Virginia - Day 2

  • Harpers Ferry - This was the only thing we did this day and for good reason. Harpers Ferry is a National Park so it definitely and easily can take up your entire day being spontaneous and living out all your wildest adventures. This was probably the highlight of our trip only because my brothers and I love hiking, scenic routes, and the outdoors. There is so much wildlife and mountains just waiting to be photographed. There is also a railroad bridge that crosses the Potomac River. We also love vintage little old towns and that was the cool thing about Harpers Ferry. Not only are they a National Park but they also have their own little old school, vintage shops and neighborhoods by the mountains where you can shop, eat, drink, and have explore. It almost makes you feel like you are walking through a Hallmark movie.

That's a wrap! Literally, that wrapped up our what was supposed to be 3 day vacation but turned into 9 day vacation. And boy, did it end on an amazing note. Even though we didn't do a crazy amount of things in each of these states, it was so relaxing just to put all our time and energy into the 2 cities we did visit in each one. And I got to cross a couple more states off my list.

Who knows where I am headed to next. As of right now, it is Florida in June for my National Pageant but I could wake up feeling spontaneous and book a flight somewhere before then. As usual, please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions regarding visiting the places I've been too or even if you're just needing help with booking a trip and learning more. I am here for ya'll!!

XOXO, Tess
